What started as another pleasant day deteriorated by the afternoon as 66611 climbed to Shap under cloudy skies with coal empties for Scotland.

Another warm sunny day and up at Greenholm 66546 descends the hill towards Tebay with the 6P24 Shap Quarry-Crewe ballast train.

Also at Greenholm, 66134 follows with the 6K05 carlisle-Crewe.

At Beckfoot, 57311 was on the next train south, the Carlise-Chirk logs

And the one I was waiting for, newly repainted 57602 Restormel Castle heads south at Beckfoot only to return north half an hour later to rescue the 1M44 mail from Shieldmuir.

Warm and hazy weather today at Elmsfield as 66561 returns from Shap Quarry with the 6P24 ballast train for Basford Hall.

The Sellafield-Crewe 6K73 consisting of 20302+20306+20307+20310 and 4 FNAs clears Silverdale crossing and traverses the marshland towards Carnforth.

With morning fog lingering in places, I was fortunate to get this clearance as 40145 wakes up the sleepy town of Grange over Sands, restarting the Compass Tour's Barrow-Aberystwyth excursion.

Over on the WCML a triple headed coal. 66008+66232+66081 head the 6S13 Warrington-New Cumnock north of Oxenholme.

Conditions were not as bright up on the S&C as 37417+37401 emerge from Moorcock Tunnel with this Kingfisher Swindon-Carlisle tour.

And the pair return south via the WCML, seen here at a rather dull Beckfoot.
